The Home Brewer's Beer IBU rate Calculator
Freeware by Stephen E. Ellis
March 15, 1995
The files, IBURATE2, IBURATE3, and IBURATE4 compute the IBU (International
Bitterness Units) produced using a specified anount of hopps.
See the enclosed reference chart for ratings of various beer types.
Use IBURATE4 if your extract/boil water ratio is 4/1. For example if you
boil 8 pounds of extract in 2 gallons of water. Use IBURATE3 if your
extract/boil water is 3/1. For example if you boil 6 pounds of extract
in 2 gallons of water. IBURATE2 would be for 2/1 ratio.
You will be asked for the total water volume in gallons. If you are making
a five gallon batch, the answer would be 5. The next question will be the
weight of hopps, in ounces, and then the alpha rating of the specific hopps
you intend to use (this number should be on the package or available from
your supplier). You will then be asked how long you are going to boil and
given the choice of 15, 30, 45, or 60 minutes. If you will be adding hopps
at different times, you can run this program for each time you will be
adding the hopps and then add up the IBUs you get for the total IBUs.
That's all there is to it...
